A Little About Me

While working as a cabinetmaker in the 90's I had a love for anything made of wood. I took the canoe building course offered by Ted Moores of Bear Mountain Boats and thought that some day I would make one myself. After changing careers I went to work for Bell Canada. I did create a few projects in my spare time such as an entertainment centre and wardrobes. I also hand carved paddles made from cherry planks. While making the paddles I was reminded of the canoe course as well as the canoe trips taken with my dad in Algonquin Park. Without fail, at least a couple times a year I would drag out my copy of Canoecraft and re-read it cover to cover. It has been a dream of mine to build a canoe and use my experience with wood to make it one of a kind. I chose the Prospector canoe because of its nice flowing lines as well as its stability factor and the fact that it can carry a lot of gear. I have the plans now so my next job will be creating the mold stations and strongback. Stayed tuned.

I can't wait to take the bow paddle for a tour with you around Cootes paradise. Let me know when I can help with the project even if is only to hold the glue bottle!
